Connect with the Welcome Network

Having local friends makes a big difference when you’re learning about the process of coming to Canada. They can explain how the system works, what is important in your application, where to find services and facilities, and share everyday tips. They can also introduce you to others who can help—from filling in forms and answering questions about Canada to connecting with people on a similar journey.

Across the country, many people are eager to meet you. They are volunteers from local churches who want to help newcomers settle into their new home in Canada. They’re happy to connect in person, by phone, or through video—whatever works best for you.

Local Churches: Who are they and what do they do?

Church communities in Canada meet regularly, but each one is different in style, traditions, and activities. Even the places they gather vary: some meet in traditional church buildings, some in modern spaces, and others in community halls or schools.

Most churches gather on Sundays for worship, prayer, and learning about Christian faith. Many also meet in smaller groups during the week. Every church is unique, but common activities include:

  • Reading the Bible and praying together
  • Social activities (e.g., camps), parent-and-child groups, and language groups where newcomers can practise English
  • Caring for people in need (e.g., food banks), community projects, and support groups for those facing challenges
  • Visiting one another’s homes and sharing meals together

Churches welcome and support everyone. Across Canada, many have joined the Welcome Network to greet newcomers, refugees, and migrants from every background. You don’t need to be a Christian to join—everyone is welcome! Find a Welcome Church near you and discover how they can help you build friendships and settle into life in Canada.
